Over the last 10+ years I have been a frequent member of a number of online forums and even created a few of my own. With a handful of exceptions, my most common identity across a number of websites is CyberShadow.
I am young of heart and old of spirit. A middle aged English man now living in Singapore, although I know that I am really 12 years old. I find myself again single after 15 years, with no children, and I am attempting to use this experience to rediscover myself, enjoy the things that are important to me and find a true direction. I work in education – teaching, university lecturing (computing and artificial intelligence) and research (robotics in healthcare).
My hobbies have always been important. I am not naturally a social person and the escapism and focus required by my hobbies have got me through some dark times. I have an obsessive streak and need to monitor what new endeavours I embark on and what responsibilities I accept.
In my past I have been active in the Wargaming community for the Games Workshop game Epic (all editions) and Battlefleet Gothic, building the Epic community and providing a place for fan development of the game and being one of the people keeping the fires burning between editions. I was also the founder and editor of the Battlefleet Gothic fanzine Warp Rift and started both the Epic and BFG annual painting competitions. I have also done freelance development work for Assault Publishing and Dark Realm Miniatures, including background crafting, rules design and development, proof reading, concept and art direction and community work. I am proud of the community that I have built around Epic and the 6mm wargaming niche, and the number of new businesses that have been founded as a direct result of the community focus and platform that I helped to create.
