I have, at various times, kept a number of blogs, mostly unsuccessfully. I have a number of hobbies and so had a blog for Transformers on a Transformers website, a personal blog on another site, and so on. I recently (Nov 2016) decided it would make far more sense to combine all of these into a single blog. And, since it would now cover a variety of subjects dear to me, and since I already maintain a number of websites on my own server, I could just host it myself.
This has both advantages and disadvantages. On the plus side, it should mean that I am more invested in the blog and have the freedom to write about pretty much whatever falls out of my brain at any given time. It also means that it should get updated more often and be more current. However, it also means that it will cover a diverse range of my interests and thoughts, and I highly doubt that anyone out there in interested in everything that I will publish here. So, I have attempted to categorise the topics the best I can, so that wargame people can find that content, toy collectors can see that without be force fed articles on model trees, and that one person interested in what I think about the latest movie (hi mum!) can find that too.
Realistically, this blog will focus on two core hobbies that I have;
Wargaming; I have a long history of wargaming, stretching back over 25 years. (Yes, I am that old.) Mostly, these posts are likely to involve 60% stuff that I have bought, 20% thoughts on the hobby, 15% games I have played and around 5% of actual painting and modelling progress. You have been warned. My first love is 6mm and in general the larger the miniatures, the less I am interested…. but also the easier it is to find people to play. Currently, I am focussing on a handful of games and trying to go ‘deep and narrow’ rather than a little of everything that I will never use….. Ha, lets see how that works out!
Toy Robots; I have been a fan of Transformers since they first hit shelves in England in 1984. I stopped buying around 1989 but never let a single bot out of my grasp, and then re-entered the hobby as an ‘adult’ collector in 2008. A year after watching the first Bay movie I wandered into a toy shop in my parents home town and picked up Universe Sunstreaker and then Universe Tankor over two consequtive days. Since then, I have amassed a large collection and branched out into Macross and a variety of other transforming mecha lines.
In addition, to these two core hobbies, there are a number of other things that most likely will appear here;
- My personal thoughts about the world, relationships and anything else that I feel like venting
- YoYos (in my circles known as ‘throws’) as I attempt to learn this new skill
- Websites, both updates on this blog as well as any of the other sites that I run or maintain across the web
- Robotics. I have a plan to expand my knowledge of real world robotics through the build of some programmable electronics kits
I will try to keep content focussed, with one post about a specific subject, and organised, using categories to define the content theme and tags for specifics. So, if you want to read about wargaming games I have played, there will be a category for it, and if you want to know about my experience with the wargame Dust, I will use a tag for that for search purposes.
This place will always be a work in progress as I change and add and customise, so if you have any comments or feedback about this blog please do leave me a note or drop me an email. Thanks for looking in and I hope that you find your stay here interesting, and that you will comment and interact so I am not just shouting into the void.
